HAES Advocacy Opportunity For Australians
Hi! The Australian Government recently released their proposed National Ob*sity Prevention Strategy. This document has a number of elements that may lead to further stigma and discrimination towards larger-bodied people in Australia. It's time to raise our voices and let them know that any policy that further entrenches inequities towards larger-bodied people is unacceptable. Any Australian individual or organisation can provide feedback. We need as many voices as we can to advocate for non-stigmatising public health policy for Australians and to take a stand that will be globally visible. Community feedback is due on November 3rd. To help with the effort, I’m holding a free Zoom workshop on Monday evening (7.30-9.30pm AEST Brisbane time, 25th October) where I’ll be talking through the proposed strategy and it’s implications, and hosting a discussion on what kind of feedback people might consider providing to advocate for weight inclusive, non-stigmatising policy. Below is a worksheet you can use to draft your responses, and some suggestions that were developed in the workshop. Work through these with the full draft strategy beside you (also linked for download). Ensure you have submitted your feedback via the government survey link by November 3rd.
